Tales from Tan

I have been an avid fan of Shaun Tan since the release of his acclaimed children’s book, The Arrival.  The Arrival is a silent film of a tale, beautifully rendered, which details the surreal journey of an unknown immigrant. An underlying sense of the strange moves though the sepia-toned reality of Shaun Tan‘s worlds, which has inspired me to find magic in everyday landscapes. Suddenly, I can hear ethereal music coming from an abandoned radio station outside of New York City or see a galaxy inside a cream tea cloud. The work of Shaun Tan makes see you the potential book inside every person and place. I recently did a review of Shaun’s Tan’s latest book, Tales from Outer Suburbia, for Kids Book Review.
